Lynn Forrest Robinson

Colonel Lynn Forrest Robinson (USAF, retired), (92), of Magnolia, Texas, passed into Heaven peacefully at home on June 27, 2023, surrounded by family. Lynn was a 27-year veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was born in 1931 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Levi and Ruth Robinson as the 6th of 7 children. He graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1949. Lynn attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1954 with a BS degree in Agricultural Engineering. He soon entered the USAF as a Second Lieutenant. The Air Force sent him back to UNH in 1963 for a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. While in the Air Force, he served in Saudi Arabia, Hawaii, Thailand, Alaska, and many other assignments in the US. Prior to his retirement in 1980 he served in Alaska as the Commander of the 1930th Communications Group and as Director of Communication and Electronics for the Alaskan Air Command.

Among his numerous military awards and decorations are the Joint Services Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. A Master Navigator with nearly 5000 flying hours, Lynn flew 36 combat missions in Southeast Asia.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1980, he relocated to the Florida Space Coast and worked as a project manager for RCA and Lockheed Space Operations at Kennedy Space Center. Upon retirement from Lockheed, he volunteered his time at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida.

Lynn met his wife Doris (“Dee”) while stationed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. On a base of 1400 men and only 28 women, Lynn was lucky enough to meet the love of his life. She was an Air Force Nurse, and they were married for 57 years at the time of her death.

In 2006, Lynn and his wife Doris relocated to Magnolia, Texas from Palm Bay, Florida in order to be able to spend more time with their grandchildren. It was there that they adopted many cats, and in his final years, Lynn’s cats were his constant companions, bringing him much love and joy.

Lynn’s hobbies included flying, especially attending WWII flying shows, and spending time playing golf, woodworking, and fishing.

Lynn is preceded in death by his parents, Levi Paul Robinson and Ruth Clarinda (Gleason) Robinson, his 6 siblings, Dale Elizabeth, Francis Irwin, Emma Florence, Ada Rosemary, Donald Herbert, and Irvin Owen, his wife Doris Mae (Woods) Robinson, his son Nathan Glenn Robinson, his son-in-law Gary Wayne Sharp, his grandson, Joshua Lynn Sharp, and his former wife, Jo Ann (Bittick) Robinson Daniel (mother of Lynda and Nathan). He is survived by his children Lynda Jo (Robinson) Harrop and husband Gary Joseph Harrop of Magnolia, Texas, Eric Lynn Robinson and partner Chuck Edward Black, of Little Rock, Arkansas and Lisa Malia (Robinson) Thomas and husband Merritt Franklin Thomas, also of Magnolia, Texas. He is also survived by his grandsons William Nathan Robinson, Forrest Russell Thomas and wife Stephanie Nicole Simpson, Hunter Lynn Thomas and wife Catelyn Leigh Nave, and Mason Anthony Thomas, and by his two great-grandsons, Hayden Joshua Sharp and Sebastian Russell Thomas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation for Lynn will be held Friday, July 14, 2023, from 9 AM to 10 AM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 I-45 S. The Woodlands, TX 77384, followed by the funeral service starting at 10AM. There will be a brief graveside service afterwards with Military Honors followed by a reception inside with light refreshments for those who would like to visit with the family and friends. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Lynn's life.
