Lynda Lou Lang Arnold passed away peacefully at age 80 at her home of 23 years in Magnolia, Texas on August 17, 2023, with son Rob Conner, sister Donna Jackson, and partner David Marks by her side. She had returned home on August 9th for hospice care provided by Amen Hospice. Her bed was set up in the living room so she could look outside into the favorite part of her home, the beautiful, wooded backyard and swimming pool area.
On her first weekend back home, her three grandsons, Denver, 31 months, Hudson, 11 months, and David Elias, 6 weeks, were all by her side, jumping on couches and even joining her in bed. At that point, the family joked that she was thinking, “take me back to the hospital!”
Lynda was born in Mesa, Arizona and was raised in California. She moved to Houston in 1971 with Rob and Sean, her sons from her first marriage. Lynda worked as a receptionist for several years before becoming the executive assistant to the owner of a local oil company. She also moonlighted as a professional model, which later gave her the opportunity to travel the world as well as live in Durango, Colorado. Lynda often spoke of the diverse places she felt fortunate to have visited. In 1992, Lynda married Larry Arnold and the couple purchased their home in Magnolia several years later. Larry started an investment and insurance firm, which prompted her to become a certified financial advisor.
Lynda lost her youngest son, Sean Conner, to suicide in 2002. After a few years of grieving, she redirected that energy to become a certified facilitator and start a Survivors of Suicide support group in southern Montgomery County. She led the classes, which met twice per month at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, for 15 years. Her strength, compassion, and empathy helped thousands of grieving families. After David's father passed in 2010, his mother and he attended these classes, which is how Lynda met David. When Lynda lost her husband in a hunting accident in 2015, David came to her rescue. Having collided in tragedy, the two fell in love and spent eight wonderful years together.
Lynda is survived by her son Rob Conner of California; sisters Cheryl Griffiths, Leslie Lang, Donna Jackson, and Lisa Casey, also of California; her aunt Joyce Diehl, also of California, partner David Howard Marks and his children David Lee and Dustin; David Lee’s wife Elena and son David Elias; Dustin’s wife Angela and sons Denver and Hudson; and her best friend of 50 years, Anita Nixon.
David feels very blessed to have known and loved Lynda. He enjoyed eight very happy years with and met many new friends through her. Rob feels incredibly lucky to have such a supportive, beautiful, loving, sweet, compassionate, open minded, generous, and gracious woman as his mother.
Lynda's celebration of life service will be at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home on October 14th at 10 am, with an on-site burial at 11, followed by a reception. The service will be live streamed on Google Meet:
