Kathryn Fay Love Stokes peacefully went to be with our Heavenly Father and be reunited with her loving husband of 66 years Winston Lee (Skip) Stokes on March 28th, 2022. She was “Known for the Way she Loved.” Kathryn was born in Waxahachie, Texas, to Walter Meigs Love and Fay Williams Love. Her father rocked her to sleep while singing the Aggie War Hymn. She was the basketball team Captain and Valedictorian of Waxahachie High School. She received her BS degree in Home Economics from East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, Texas, and taught school for several years.
Kathryn was a loving wife and mother, who created the quintessential sense of home in Texas, Louisiana and Ohio. She was the ringleader for annual family beach trips. Her interests included sewing and service, such as welcoming newcomers, teaching Sunday School and serving as a Girl Scout leader. She had a playful spirit and was always quick to share a smile – and even a wink if you were lucky. She enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and had a special love for flowers, squirrels and birds. She was a passionate traveler, whether camping, cruising, coordinating seniors’ excursions, or visiting Europe and Africa. Having lived in The Woodlands, Texas, since 1979, she was a devoted member of The Woodlands Christian Church for decades and more recently attended The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
Kathryn was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to family, church, and community. She is survived by 3 children Beverly (husband Ray), Michael (wife Colleen), and Robert (wife Julie); 7 grandchildren Nathan (wife Mandy), Rebecca (husband Jordan), Shannon (husband Santi), Logan, Allyson, Ashley, and Nicholas; and 3 great-grandchildren Lucas, Charlie, and Emma. She was very proud to be a Texas Aggie daughter, sister, aunt, mother, mother-in-law and Nana. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by Amber Gibbons and her SureCare At Home colleagues, and Lidia Cozma with her team at the Grace Residential Care Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Robb Chapel at The Woodlands United Methodist Church on Monday May 16, 2022, at 1:00pm. All are welcome to honor Kathryn’s life by wearing cheerful colors. It is requested that any tributes be made in the form of a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://act.alz.org/donate in Memory of Kathryn Love Stokes.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.forestparkthewoodlands.com for the Stokes family.
