John Quinn of The Woodlands, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 18, 2024. Born in Boston, MA and raised in Medford. Youngest son of Joseph and Marion (Carline) Quinn. Loving husband of the late Theresa (McDonough) Quinn and Beverly (Metts) Quinn.
After graduation from Medford High, John entered the United States Army in 1954. He served his country as a member of the Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the highest and/most honored duty assignment that an enlisted man in the United States Army can achieve. John received an honorable discharge in 1956 and used the G.I. bill to put himself through Northeastern University. There he was student council president, fraternity treasurer and graduated with honors in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science, focusing on Industrial Relations and Economics.
He married his loving wife Theresa (McDonough) Quinn also of Medford, MA in 1959. They raised three children together while moving all over the country during John’s early career with Shell Oil Co. Beginning in Boston, MA they lived in Hartford, CT Providence, RI, St. Lois, MO, Bridgeport, CT Houston, TX, Danville, CA and back to Houston, TX (Westador) in 1973. John held many jobs throughout his career at Shell and was responsible for numerous projects. A couple of the most notable being the implementation of the Shell credit card and bringing Shell unleaded fuel to market. John retired in 1995 after more than 34 years of diversified and distinguished service.
John and Theresa (Terry) traveled the world together both as a host couple for work and for pleasure. They had many fond years with friends and relatives in their home and on trips. They had a summer home on Cape Cod in Barnstable, MA where their kids and grandkids were regular visitors and so many good memories were made. Just before John retired they moved to The Woodlands, TX. John’s passion was golf and he played often with his golf buddies both in The Woodlands and on Cape Cod. He was a member of The Bohemian Club in California for more than two decades. The club was a place to celebrate the arts, and embrace his love of history and learning. John always looked forward to weeks of camping in the summers where no work was allowed and he was able to fellowship with men from different parts of life.
Most of all John loved all his family. He demonstrated that in countless ways, both large and small. He was warm, welcoming, and generous beyond words. He had the biggest heart with so much love to share, and there was nothing more important to John than family. After the loss of Terry, and over 55 years of marriage, John found love again and married Beverly. He would often say he was the luckiest man to have found such a loving wife, not once, but twice in one lifetime. John and Beverly enjoyed life to the fullest, entertaining and traveling with friends and family. John loved to share his favorite places with those he loved. With Beverly the family grew even bigger and John’s love of family and traveling made for many fun family vacations, a tradition that will live on in his honor.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his siblings Joseph, Marguerite, James, Charles, Jeanette, Edward, and Marion. And loving wife Theresa and first born son John.
John is survived by loving wife Beverly, daughter Brenda, son Kevin, stepchildren Theresa Jones, Adina Bell, and Eric Hawk, grandchildren Patrick, Shannon, and Madison Linney, and Andrew, Emily, Laura, and Kelly Quinn. Also step grandchildren Peyton McPhillips, Taylor Savage and Hawk Jones. And of course great grandchildren Piper and Ryan McCorkle and Hudson Savage. All the many nieces and nephews there are too many to name but were very dear to John as well.
There are many ways to honor John and his life. Research for Alzheimers and Macular Degeneration are two missions that were dear to him and he would be honored if you would help further those missions in his name. Donations may be made at Bright Focus Foundation through brightfocus.com.
