John Daniel McCarthy, born August 5, 1983, in Port Huron, Michigan, passed away on November 15, 2024, from a heart attack while attending a Cub Scout family camping trip with his children at Lake Livingston State Park, Polk County, Texas.
John is survived by his parents Joseph and Madelyn McCarthy of Marine City, Michigan; his only brother, Joseph H. McCarthy, of New York City, New York; his former wife, Audry Nicole McCarthy (Raines), and the three children they adore: Rose Catherine McCarthy (age 11), Patrick Austin McCarthy (age 9), and Violet Jane McCarthy (age 5) of The Woodlands, Texas. John was also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents: Joseph D. and Patricia J. McCarthy, and Herbert V. and Margery Rowe; and great aunt Margaret Watson.
John graduated from Port Huron Northern High School, Class of 2002 and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Class of 2006. While at Port Huron Northern High School, John was a percussionist in the marching band, and he was a four year varsity letter winner in the pole vault. Additionally, John was a walk-on pole vaulter for the University of Michigan Track Team. Professionally, John was a teacher, and a cross country/track coach at The Woodlands High School.
As a young man, John was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed many scouting adventures in Michigan and across the country. John later shared the love of scouting with his children.
John devoted his life to his faith, family, friends, community, and his students. His life embodied service to others.
A visitation for John will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sts. Simon And Jude Catholic Parish, 26777 Glen Loch Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77381.
