John "Rodney" Calvert, 68, of Montgomery, Texas, rode home to be with the Lord on May 7th, 2016. He was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on March 23rd, 1948. Rodney completed his undergraduate studies at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He earned his Masters of Religious Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
In February 1986, Rodney married the love of his life, Andrea Marcaccio Calvert. Rodney and Andrea were an inseparable team, married for over 30 precious years. She called him "My Rodney", and he called her "Shortcakes". He quietly, lovingly protected and watched over her their entire marriage. They shared raising each of their sons together, Nathan Calvert and Marc Wallace.
Rodney was a master of many trades in his life. He especially excelled in sales, as he had the gift of gab. Rodney was involved with automobile sales and dealership financing for over 30 years. Rodney was the number one salesman in 2014 with Next Gear Capital, being rewarded with a first class trip to the Bahamas. Prior to his career in sales, Rodney served his country with honor, as a Combat Veteran of the United States Army. He was Boots on Ground in Viet Nam from 1968 - 1969, concluding his service stateside in 1971. He was a proud American. Rodney had a great love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He fulfilled one of his life's wishes by leading others to Christ through service, first in Alabama, then in Conroe at the Ark Church. Rodney and his wife, Andrea, joined the Ark Church in 2007, where they served together as Greeters, and Class Leaders of the Single Truths Life Group. He was licensed by the Ark Church to officiate over funerals and marriages, and married numerous couples. Rodney was a treasured Life Group leader and mentor to so many church members and will be sorely missed.
Rodney had a passion for motorcycles. His first bike was a 1952 Cushman Eagle. He loved to ride and rode to live...all the way to his final journey, on his Ride with Wings. Rodney was a member of Cut 'N Shoot HOG Chapter. He made several cross country trips on his Harley-Davidson, always with his wife, Andrea, clinging behind him, enjoying the beauty of the country he served. Rodney also supported his community in so many ways. Some of his favorite activities with Cut 'N Shoot was giving rides to kids on the back of his bike at Austin Elementary, and being a part of the Christmas Toy Drive.
Rodney was proceeded in death by his parents, Virga Livingston and John Alvin Calvert, brother-in-law, Raymond Riddle, and several aunts and uncles. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Andrea and his adult children, Nathan (Kristen) and Marc; his sister, Sheila; grandchildren, Hudson and Harper, niece, Brandi and many Calvert and Marcaccio family members.
He was a gentleman to us all. We are honored to have shared him as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, friend and mentor. He was kind and humble, non-judgmental and accepting. Rodney's priorities were clear -- his devotion to his Lord guided all his decisions for his family and community.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 am with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am in the chapel of Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 Interstate 45 South, The Woodlands, Texas, 77384. An interment will immediately follow at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery.
