Ima Joe was born in Fort Stockton, Texas on May 20, 1922. Her parents were Ima Duncan Hallford and Joe C. Hallford, Sr. Ima Joe graduated from Fort Stockton High School, and she then attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine,Texas, where she earned a B.S. Degree with Certificates in Elementary and High School Education. On January 17, 1946, Ima Joe married Vernon D McCall of Alpine, Texas. Following her love for teaching, Ima Joe taught school in Plainview, Ft. Stockton, and Odessa, Texas and retired after 23 years. She also served as a member of the Parent Teacher Association, Texas StateTeachers Association, C.T.A., and the Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International.
Ima Joe attended Highland United Methodist Church in Odessa, Texas until she moved to Montgomery, Texas in 2000. While in Odessa, she also served as the Circle president for Church Women United from 1988-89 and was a member of United Methodist Women. Since moving to Montgomery, Ima Joe has been a member of a non-denominational Christian fellowship. Her other interests included tennis, bowling, the theatre, and playing Dominos with her family.
Ima Joe was a devoted wife and mother, who loved and cared deeply for her family. She is survived by her five children: Frances Earlene King of Greensboro, Georgia; Mary Ann Colson of Montgomery, Texas; Bonnie Colleen Alverson of Sugarland, Texas; Vernon Dee McCall of Gilbert, Arizona; and William Lee McCall of Shallowater,Texas. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and her brother, Joe C. Hallford, Jr. of Ft. Stockton, Texas.
Family will receive friends at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 I 45 South, on Wednesday, January 9, 2012 from 5-7 in the evening. Her funeral will be in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, January 10, at 11:00 am. Interment will be on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine, Texas at 11 am.
