He was the son of Elias F. Jones and Caroline J. Dold, born in San Antonio, Texas. He had many fond memories of traveling the world with his family as the child of an Airforce father. When his father retired the family moved to San Angelo, Texas where Doyle spent the remainder of his childhood.
Upon graduating from Wall, High School DJ followed his father's footsteps by joining The United States Air Force, it was there that he gained his love of and passion for everything sports. He was a fierce Dallas Cowboy fan and rarely missed watching a game. DJ also enjoyed the outdoors, playing golf whenever possible and traveling to the beach for vacations. He always said “there is nothing like the sound of the ocean and the feel of sand between your toes to help you destress and appreciate life.
Doyle was a proud father who could be heard often expressing his love and admiration for his two beautiful children; his son, Bryce and daughter Amanda Rose. He shared many wonderful memories of his time spent with his children and later with the loves of his life, his grandchildren Ryan and Gracie.
DJ was a dog lover his entire life and leaves behind his dear Chuck (Dachshund) and Selena (cat) who have been his companions in his final years. Heartbroken after the loss of his beloved Dachshund, Watson, DJ rescued a kitten and named her Selna to help ease the pain of Chuck who had lost his brother and best friend. Though slow to accept his new furry friend, Chuck soon became inseparable from Selena. Doyle’s greatest love of all was for his two children, son Bryce and daughter, Amanda Rose and later his two grandchildren, Ryan and Gracie. He tried to never miss a Birthday or time he could spend with his grandchildren and was often seen posting and bragging about just how fantastic they are. If asked, DJ could easily produce pictures and long conversations full of colorful and loving stories about his amazing children and grandchildren. Maybe most of all Doyle was a fantastic friend and a tremendous human being. WE will miss you DJ. Heaven is a better place today.
Doyle’s primary occupation, after serving time in the Armed Forces, was in sales. First in the Automobile sales industry and later in the poker industry. DJ had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. He was loyal, dependable, and trustworthy to a fault. During his career in the card dealing and poker industry DJ was responsible for the successful opening of several Poker establishments in the Houston and surrounding areas.
Doyle is survived by his son, Bryce; daughter, Amanda; his adored and treasured grandchildren, Ryan and Gracie; his sister, Carol Watford; his nephews and nieces, Kristen Shirley, Joseph Lockwood, Amy Bond and Brian Lockwood; and his mother, Caroline Dold Johnson. Doyle is preceded in death by his father, Elias F. Jones.
