Although she considered Texas her home, she was born in St. Luis, Missouri to Frederick Taylor and Dorothy Ranson Spangler. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas and was the youngest of her siblings.
Dorothy met and married her first husband Wayne Huseby in 1956 in San Antonio. She raised her children Holly and Eric in Southwest Houston and worked as a court stenographer for many years. Her true passion was horticulture. She loved working with plants, flowers, and trees.
In 1999 she met and married the love of her life, Jack Darden. The two of them had a passion for traveling. They were always on a new adventure. The love they shared overflowed to all her children and grandchildren. We always looked forward to the tales they would tell when returning from one of their trips.
Words cannot describe the love we feel for our Dorothy, wife, mother, grand lady, aunt, and friend. “Grand” is the key word! She lived as if there were no tomorrow. Always adventurous, fun loving and happy, she lived a beautiful life from start to end. As the matriarch of our family, she shared an amazing legacy. Dorothy gave us 87 years of love, laughter, teaching, and tears. She was thoughtful and kind. Her warm hugs were plentiful. We were grateful and blessed to know of her love and love her back.
Dorothy was truly a one of a kind, rare to find Southern Belle. We can all smile and know that she is well, happy, and elated to be rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus and those that she loves that have gone before her. The stars will shine just a little brighter knowing that she will be looking down on us. We will surely miss your sense of humor and love. We will see you again!
