Doris Maybelle “Gigi” Fry, of Spring, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the age of 97. Doris was born October 7, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Ernest “Slats” and Annella Livingston. She was the oldest of two, with sister Ernestine coming along three years later. She graduated from Handley High School where she played sports and was a member of the Girl Reserves and Glee Club.
On December 15, 1945, she married her childhood friend Bill “Gramps” Fry after he returned from fighting in WWII. They had a lovely life and raised two wonderful children. Their relationship was inspiring to watch. They walked down the street holding hands until the day Gramps died in April of 1997.
Gigi had a passion for many things: cruises, embroidery, reading, TV westerns, and fashion; but it was her family that brought her the greatest joy. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it be watching Doris Day movies, talking about her childhood, enjoying the view in Angel Fire, or having beauty days (she loved her pedicures!), she was up for anything! When the great-grandchildren came along, you would find her attending all events she could from sporting events and band concerts, to school plays and ear piercings. She was a comedian when it came to them and would do anything to make them smile. She was truly proud of her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cheryl Bennett and husband Chuck, Terry Fry and wife Connie; grandchildren Mark Bennett and wife Robin, Teri Rommel and husband Brian, Bill Fry and wife Sheila, and Amy Fry; eight great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one great-grandson-in-law; as well as a host of relatives and friends who truly treasured her.
She is proceeded in death by her adoring husband, parents, sister, and grandson, Tracy.
A Memorial Service is set for 10am on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Trinity Klein Lutheran Church, 5201 Spring Cypress Rd., Spring, TX 77379. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.forestparkthewoodlands.com.
