After a long battle with COPD, Dan went peacefully surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Dan was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 12, 1951, to Ray and Virginia Kealing. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Business Administration. His career in the coal industry as a contract negotiator & Director of Marketing spanned over 20 years, with moves from Indianapolis, Indiana to Denver, Colorado, and Gillette, Wyoming. He retired with his wife in The Woodlands, Texas.
Dan was an avid golfer, enjoying the sport and camaraderie with friends he met over the years. He was also passionate about reading, working out, and running. He loved to travel, especially enjoying trips and adventures with his family.
Even as Dan fought COPD, he wanted to help others with the disease live longer healthier lives. As an advocate for COPD research and patient support, Dan became a Texas State Captain for the COPD Foundation. In this capacity, he always lent his voice by sharing his experiences, hoping to improve the lives of others affected. Dan particularly enjoyed being part of a patient group working on COPD treatments during COVID. He was also the co-author of a recent article published in CHEST magazine.
Dan is survived by his wife, Debi, son Adam Kealing, step-son Bob Kelly, two daughters-in-law, Melissa Kealing and Alyssa Kelly, and four grandchildren Lillyanna Kelly, Jasper Kealing, Linus Kealing, and McKenna Kelly. Dan was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his loving family and many friends.
