Curt Eugene Richards passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020 at the age of 90. Curt was born in Racine, WI on December 9, 1929, an only child to Raymond D. Richards and Elizabeth Blash Richards. While pursuing a business degree at the University of Wisconsin, Curt enlisted in the Air Force Reserves in 1951. He was stationed in Bangor, ME as Airman First Class, AF Reserve. He was honorably discharged from Air National Guard (128th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron) on October 29, 1953, and again honorably discharged from the US Air Force on January 7, 1954. Curt graduated from The University of Wisconsin in 1955 with a Business Degree in Economics.
While home on leave in the early 1950s, he met the love of his life, Marilyn Rose Huber. They married on October 1, 1955 and built a lifetime together raising a beautiful family. They have been each other’s ‘rock’, having celebrated nearly 65 years of marriage together as best friends.
Curt spent his career working in Credit Management and Consulting. In his early years, he held multiple positions in Milwaukee, Chicago and surrounding areas with companies focused in heavy machinery. In the late 1980s, he made a significant move to Texas with Kobelco resulting in what would become their permanent home in the Houston area. His last position, prior to retirement, was with Baker Botts in Houston.
Curt had many passions in life, but his love for his family was the greatest of all. He was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren, with all the noise and chaos it brought. He relished family birthday parties, holiday get-togethers and especially fall sports. Not only was Curt a Die Hard Wisconsin Badger’s Fan, he was never known to miss a Green Bay Packer game. And of course, his “super dry” martini that never seemed dry enough will be a fond memory of Curt by those who knew him best.
Preceded in death by his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Marilyn (Lynn) of Houston, TX; children Kim Regnitz and husband Mark of Bancroft, WI; Kay Helgerson and husband Jay, of The Woodlands, TX; Mark Richards and wife Patti of Richmond, VA; Kerry McClure and husband Mark of The Woodlands, TX; and Scott Richards and wife Christine of Spring, TX; grandchildren Brent Richards and fiancé Lucy Roberts, Nick Helgerson and wife Taylor, Connor Richards, Matt McClure, Alec Helgerson, Jack Helgerson, Cameron McClure, Dylan Regnitz, Nathan McClure, Trey McClure, Gabrielle Richards and Beckett Richards; great-grandson Tobias Helgerson.
A private Catholic memorial service is planned for Curt on August 5, 2020 at Forest Park The Woodlands followed by an interment service at the Houston National Cemetery in honor of his years of service for our Country.
As much as Curt was so greatly loved, he will be missed. Rest in peace husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather …. and may you be dancing in heaven. We love you!
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance… --Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
