Charles Brewer passed away on December 6, 2023 in Spring, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was just a few months shy of his 100th birthday. Charles was born March 7, 1924 to Clint and Minnie (Davis) Brewer in Eldorado, Illinois.
Charles graduated in 1942 from Eldorado High School in Eldorado before enlisting in the United States Navy. As a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class for the Navy, Charles served on many ships and at many stations during his 2 years, 9 months of service. After being Honorably Discharged on 12/11/1945, Charles owned and operated his own auto repair shop before joining Koestlin Tool & Die Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. He later worked for Grand Steel & Manufacturing Corporation before retiring from KCK Machine in Hazel Park, Michigan in 1998.
Charles met the love of his life, Lawanna Smith, and the two were married on May 28, 1953. They were long-time residents of Madison Heights, Michigan, living there for 54 years. It was in Madison Heights that they had their beloved son, Craig. Charles and Lawanna were longtime members of Central Freewill Baptist Church in Royal Oak, Michigan where Charles served as a trustee and a deacon. Charles and Lawanna shared 58 wonderful years together before her passing in 2011.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by son Craig and daughter-in-law Patty, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
A service to honor Charles’ life and military service will take place at Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10 am.
