Billy McCoy passed away suddenly on January 30, 2018. A man of authenticity, Billy will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was born in Fordyce, Arkansas on April 26, 1928, to Christian parents, Dovie Morgan and Phinious McCoy. He received an honorable discharge with both the United States Marine Corps from 1948-1950, and the Air National Guard of the United States from 1950-1952, as a cryptographer.
After his military service, Billy worked in the banking industry with Reagan State Bank and later with Texas Commerce Bank, where he served as President until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Margaret Elaine Miller, in 1949 and cherished the many good times, as well as challenges, they experienced together through the years.
Billy's love and dedication to his family was unconditional and he was a great source of strength and wisdom to his children growing up through his gentle, but deliberate, advice and leading by example. His children recall many early mornings rising to see their dad sitting in his chair reading the Word before going off to work. He had a strong work ethic and hands on ability to fix anything and to be patient while doing so, no matter what. Billy was always consistent in his fairness and integrity, not only to his family and friends, but also in business and his character stood head and shoulders above the crowd. Always a peacekeeper and diplomat, he lived true to his motto, “kill em with kindness”. Above all, Billy was a man of strong faith, loved God and walked the path that exemplified his personal relationship with Christ. He knew this life was but a stepping stone into the much greater one that awaits us all.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Elaine, and survived by his precious brother Carlton McCoy and wife, Nelda; sons, Jeffrey Dean McCoy and wife, Kim; Brian Keith McCoy and wife, Becky; daughter, Melanie McCoy Appelt and husband, Darrel. He was "Papaw" to his beloved grandchildren, Dustin McCoy and wife, Alexandra; Stephen Appelt and wife, Aerial; Kyle Appelt and fiancé, Montana; Troy Nichols and wife, Tonya; Rachael Vachon and husband, Claude; Kolby Alexander, Kamren Alexander and Chase Alexander; great grandchildren, Harper Elaine Appelt and future grandson, Camden Reed Appelt, Riley Walters, Dylan Smith, Justin Vachon, Isabelle Vachon, Patrick Vachon, Jessica Dekerlegend and Todd Dekerlegend. And numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family that he loved dearly.
