Alice Elaine DeWitt, 68, of The Woodlands, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, August 22, 2018. She was born in Shelby, Michigan on August 22, 1950 to Dr. Willis A. and Beverly (Moul) Hasty.
Alice was raised in Shelby, Michigan in a loving home with 3 siblings. Her summers were spent at their family cottage on Lake Michigan 10 miles away from their house in town. Alice was an active member in her high school, played the French horn and piano, and graduated from Shelby High School in 1968. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Michigan in 1972. She met William (Bill) Russell DeWitt while attending Michigan and they were married in 1971.
Alice was employed as a nurse until Steven was born. With three more children to follow, Alice dedicated herself to her family. Alice was a loving wife and mother who was devoted to her husband and children. She was a devout Christian woman dedicated to raising her children in a loving home.
Alice loved traveling throughout the country and around the world with Bill and her family; however, her favorite place was her cottage on Lake Michigan. Alice loved to watch birds, listen to the waves, and enjoy the beauty of nature. She was an active and prominent member of the garden club in New Orleans, LA and The Woodlands, TX. She enjoyed many years of teaching Sunday school classes and was a gifted teacher of the Bible.
Alice is survived by her 4 children, Steven DeWitt (Carey), Sandra Engle (Robb), Russell DeWitt (Karen), and Scott DeWitt (Leah); 9 grandchildren Julie DeWitt, Madelyn DeWitt, Nathan DeWitt, Addison Engle, Aida Engle, Taylor DeWitt, William DeWitt, Lillian DeWitt, and Avett DeWitt. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Russell DeWitt; parents, Willis and Beverly Hasty; siblings, Willis Hasty, Janet Bird, and Dan Hasty.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park-The Woodlands Funeral Home on Sunday, August 26th from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at The Woodlands First Baptist Church on Monday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. with a procession directly to follow to Forest Park-The Woodlands for the Committal Service. A reception with light refreshments will directly follow the Committal Service at the Forest Park Funeral Home.
