Alan B Springer, a proud US Army veteran, business executive, retired civil servant, university professor, and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully in his home on February 20, 2023, following a four year fight with leukemia. He was surrounded by family members and was 78 years old.
The son of Morris Springer and Marion Biletsky, Alan was born in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in the area until the age of 17, when he joined the US Merchant Marine and sailed throughout the Pacific aboard the SS China Bear. He then attended college at the University of Akron in Ohio and received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management. After graduating from college and completing Army ROTC, he commissioned into the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, and served several years in Germany during the height of the Cold War. While living in Germany, he met Charlotte Probst, his future wife of nearly 52 years and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah.
Alan was known for his charming personality, great sense of humor, and warm demeanor. He served the community throughout his life as a professor at a University of Maryland satellite campus in Germany and at Lone Star College in Texas. He was the Chief Financial Officer for a former Fortune 500 company, IKON, an entrepreneur, and a small business CEO that managed several innovative technology patents in the fields of biodiesel and petroleum. He also retired as a civil servant from the US Army as a GS-14 in 1993 after nearly 25 years of honorable service.
Alan is survived by his wife Charlotte, sister Jane Lubin, three sons Oliver (Sandy), Eric (Stacie), and Kevin (Candace), and seven grandchildren: Teagan, Ava, Isabel, Talon, Scarlett, Amelia, and Colin. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed cheering on his children in athletics and in life, swimming, playing tennis, chess, and going on long walks. He lived an extraordinary life, and always cherished and supported his family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, he would appreciate donations to the charity of your choice.
A memorial service for Alan will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384, followed by a reception from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
