Vera Vennie Bruce, age 91, of Texarkana, Texas passed away peacefully November 1, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Bruce was born October 28, 1929 to Arthur and Octavia Mangum in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. She was retired from Day & Zimmermann. She was a member of Buchanan First Baptist Church. Mrs. Bruce is preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband of 55 years George V. Bruce; two daughters Georgia Tatum and Pam Griggs; two brothers Earl Mangum and Harold Mangum; and five sisters Katherine Pyle, Allene Scallion, Omie Brown, Eloise Pullig, and Joyce Sanches.
Survivors to cherish her memory include one daughter Becky Pinkham of Texarkana, TX and two sons and daughters-in-law Mark and Rhonda Bruce of Texarkana, TX and Terry and Claire Bruce of Wake Village, TX; one brother Johnny Wayne Mangum (Alice) of Memphis, TN: two sons-in-law Doyle Tatum and Kenneth Griggs both of Texarkana, TX; seven grandchildren Kenny Griggs, Bryan Griggs, April Bruce Francis, Robert Bruce, Sommer Tatum Smith from Texarkana; Adam Bruce of Heath, TX and Patrick Bruce of Carrollton, TX; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild with a second great-great-grandchild due in eight months; two special nieces Marilyn McDonald and Joann Horner as well as several other relatives and friends. Mrs. Bruce is also survived by her dear friends James and Linda Moody of Texarkana, TX. Mrs. Bruce loved James as a son. Their friendship began sixty years ago when she and James, a young teenager a the time, worked at A&P Grocery Store.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Memorial Gardens with Reverend Larry Sims officiating. Burial is under the direction of East Funeral Home - Moores Lane.
Come and go visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at East Funeral Home - Moores Lane.
