If you were one of the lucky ones to ever cross paths with Travis Clyde Mitchell III, you’d remember his flowing white locks and infectious smile. He had the remarkable gift of greeting everyone with a grand hello, ensuring strangers became friends and friends became family.
Travis was born on the 22nd of September, 1942, and left this world on the 15th of December, 2024, after 82 vibrant years. Born in the humble town of Pine Bluff, Travis’s journey was one filled with laughter, triumph, and boundless adventure.
After graduating with his Pharmaceutical Doctorate, he championed local healthcare with the opening of two trusted drug stores in Hope, Arkansas. His 9-step drug store, Mitchell’s Medi Mart, became a community staple. His knowledge extended beyond the pharmacy counter, as he went on to shape emergency readiness as the Pharmaceutical Leader for the Arkansas Department of Health’s Preparedness department. His dedication truly left an indelible mark on public health in the state.
Lake Hamilton was more than just home for Travis—it was a haven filled with cherished memories. The slow purr of his boat as he "put-putted" along the lake with friends and family was his version of paradise. It was here that he filled his days with sunshine and laughter, sharing his joy with all who joined him for those breezy lake outings.
Although the lake was home to Travis for over 15 years, it was Yellow Creek Hunting Club where he truly found peace. It was here that he raised his family, spent countless hours in the woods, and even harvested a Boone and Crockett champion buck in 2007. In the end, it was also here that he spent his final days, surrounded by endless laughter and stories—an enduring testament to the energy and warmth he carried with him throughout his 82 years.
Travis follows his father, Travis Mitchell II, his mother, Melba Smith, his sister, Susan Procell, and his grandson, Hogan Mitchell to eternal peace. He is survived by his children - Travis Blake (Carol) Mitchell, Piper (Michael) Doubleday, Taylor Mitchell (Rand) Doyle, and Molly Mitchell (Robert) Thurston, as well as 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They will carry a vibrant legacy of laughter and jovial spirit, gifting the world with yet another generation of his warmth and openness.
In remembrance, service will be held January 25th. A Celebration of Life will follow for close family and friends. Kindly revisit this page for the latest updates.
Despite saying goodbye for now, his spirit remains with us, floating along the gentle waves of Lake Hamilton and in the brisk air of Yellow Creek, forever carrying his message of joy and laughter.
