Thomas E. Jones, Jr., formerly of Texarkana, AR, died in Dallas, TX, Janary 19, 2015, at the age of 67 after an extended illness. He was the son of Thomas and Mildred Jones, born July 3, 1947, in Gurdon, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Laws Jones of Fort Worth, TX. His children include a daugher, Jennifer Leigh Jones, one son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Stacy Jones, and two grandsons, Matthew and Michael Jones. Extended family members include aunts, cousins, a sister-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
Tommy was a 1965 honor graduate of Texas High School. He graduated from Southern Methodist University and recieved two Masters Degrees from East Texas State University. He also received a degree from The Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.
For many years Tommy was a very active church and community leader in Texarkana. He was a deacon, lifelong choir member, past president and treasurer of the Wilbur Smith Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as chairman of the St.James Day School Board, the Texarkana Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Texarkana Public Library Foundation.
Tommy became a disabled veteran due to his service in Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart during combat duty. Professionally, he owned and operated Jones Lumber Company and retired after 20 years as a Senior Vice President and Trust Officer/Manager with Texarkana National Bank and Hibernia Bank.
Service will be 1 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at Highland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Myers and Dr. Terry Land officiating. Military Rights Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home - Moores Lane, officiated by Don Howren. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the funeral home.
