Sherry Jeannine Wilburn, age 83, passed away on July 25, 2023 surrounded by her family. Sherry was born on October 4, 1939, in Longview, Texas. She graduated from Texas High School and was a proud member of the great Class of '57. Sherry took pride in the fact she was a 5th generation resident of Bowie County. She worked at Red River Army Depot for over 30 years. Some of Sherry's fondest memories were the seven years she spent working in various locations in Germany. Sherry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Texarkana, Arkansas. She was the first president of the Hooks Jaycee-ettes, president of the PTA and was named "Hooks Woman of the Year" in 1978. Sherry loved the Texas High Tigers, Hooks Hornets, Texas Longhorns, Boston Red Sox and any team her sons were playing for. She loved her family and friends deeply and was an amazing mother and Oma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Everett York, and her sister, Hazel Lumpkin. She is survived by her husband, Larry Wilburn of Texarkana, Texas, her beloved sons, Jim Oliver of Longview, Texas, Jay Oliver and wife, Sonja of Texarkana, Texas and step-daughter and son, Kathy Wilburn-Brannon of Texarkana, Texas and Darien Wilburn of Round Rock, Texas. She is also survived by three adored grandchildren, Tyler Oliver of Layton, Utah, Paige Oliver of Austin, Texas and Amy Oliver of Texarkana, Texas. Sherry's special bonus family are Kara K. Sandidge-Moore, and Kyle Hodge Sandidge who with her own grandchildren called her Oma. Sherry will also be missed by many wonderful friends.
Funeral service will be held at East Funeral Home-Moores Lane at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Texarkana, 2407 Galleria Oaks, Texarkana, Texas or Northwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 2800 Richmond Road, Texarkana, Texas.
