Ross Leroy McAlister, 71, of Ashdown, Arkansas, died on May 30, 2014 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on July 24, 1942 in Texarkana, AR, and is preceded in death by his mother Merilyn Bynum McAlister, and father Ross Buffington McAlister, Jr.
Ross graduated from Texarkana Texas High School in 1960, and attended Sam Houston State in Huntsville, TX from 1962-65 where he ran track and lettered in football.
Ross was a loyal member and supporter of the Sigma Chi chapter at Sam Houston State, and was a 50-year member. Ross’ love for sports and golf in particular made him a well-known figure on the PGA Golf Tour creating and distributing golf memorabilia to fans and players alike.
Ross is survived by his loving companion Janice Elliott of Pensacola, FL, three sons: Kyle McAlister of Abilene, TX, Lance McAlister of Charlotte, NC and Brett Gregory of Winnsboro, TX, a sister and brother-in-law Debby and Toney Smith of Burleson, TX, an aunt Martha McAlister of Mt. Pleasant, TX, 10 grandchildren, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
A memorial service in Ross’ honor will be held on June 5, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. at the East Funeral Home on 2807 Moores Ln, Texarkana TX with Judge Jim Gunter, Lance McAlister and Kyle McAlister officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM. A separate Sigma Chi White Rose Ceremony will be held in Huntsville, TX on Saturday June 7 at 2:00 PM.
