Renetta Leigh Thompson Gardner was born October 25, 1945, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Charles T. Thompson and Mary Ruth Bell Thompson. She died on September 7, 2021, of pneumonia, which was complicated by COVID-19. She was 75-years-old.
Renetta was a 1963 graduate of Arkansas High School in Texarkana and attended Texarkana Community College. After a brief stint living in Washington, DC, and working at the United States Treasury Department, Renetta returned to Texarkana and lived the rest of her life there.
She married Heyl E. Gardner on October 5, 1973. They had one daughter, Anna Kathleen.
Renetta always had an interest in health care and spent a few years as an inhalation therapist before entering the nursing profession, from which she retired. She was not only a health care professional, but also a cancer survivor.
Renetta is survived by her daughter, Anna, of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, the Rev. Charles T. Thompson (Linda) of Grand Junction, Colorado; a younger sister, the Rev. Kathleen (the Rev. Dan) Hignight of Shreveport, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister, Mary Charlotte Thompson Cobb.
