Pete was born August 22, 1932 in Fairview, Iowa to Marion Leonard Myers (1906 - 1979) and Emily Cecil Henderson Myers (1914 - 1993). He had a brother, Jon William Myers who died in 1952. Pete attended Prairie City High School. He was active in atheltics. He spent his college years at Simpson, College in Indianola, Iowa (1951 - 1955) receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. On November 13, 1953 Pete married the love of his life, Betty Marie Stackhouse.
Pete was employed in Des Moines, Iowa at Armstrong Rubber Company. He was transferred to Hanford, California and to Guilford, Conneticut. He spent 15 years with Armstrong. In 1970 he began working for Cooper Tire and Rubber in Texarkana, Arkansas, retiring in 1994 as chief chemist.
Pete enjoyed his large family, often taking family vacations with them. He was a charter member of the Mountain Men. As their president, Pete led the men on many adventures including the Arkansas River in Colorado, a plane show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and an Alaskan cruise. He loved to pan for gold, hunt, fish, golf, paint and tinker on cars. Pete was an early member of Sugar Hill United Methodist Church, serving on many different committees.
Pete is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty. He is also survived by his children: Victoria Lee Massey and husband Charles of Brandon, Mississippi, Peter Scott Myers and wife Amy of Franklin, Tennessee, Kathleen Renee Anglin and husband Jerry of Texarkana, Texas, Christine Jo Thomas and husband David of Texarkana, Texas, Sandra Jean Morrow and husband Scott of Wake Village, Texas, Mark Leonard Myers and wife Milli of The Woodlands, Texas, and Jon Harvey Myers and wife Shelly of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was loved by 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Eva Walker and Ruth Pickle. Pete will be missed by his faithful Golden Retriever, Nugget, and by family and friends.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Sugar Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. George O'Dell and Dr. Herbert Wren officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home-Moores Lane. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Thursday, March 10, 2011 at East Funeral Home-Moores Lane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Texarkana. The family would like to express their appreciation to them for their hard work and dedication. We would also like to thank Twyla Propps for her loving care and laughter shared with Pete.
