John S. Cowart, 74 of Texarkana, TX. passed away in Atkins, AR. on May 11, 2018. Mr. Cowart was born March 18, 1944 in Orange, TX. He was a retired Texarkana Police Officer and began his law enforcement career at the Miller County Sheriffs office and retired from the Texarkana Texas Police Dept. in 1998. He then served with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Dept. He was an avid classic car enthusiast, loved restoring antique juke boxes and radios. Loved volunteering at Cornerstone Baptist Church where he was a member.
Preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Cowart, Sr. and a sister Clydine Cowart Watson.
Survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jo and Ira Taylor of Atkins, AR; nephews Jimmy Cowart, Jr. and USMC Colonel John David Cowart both of Fouke, AR; Mark Taylor, Chris Taylor and Brent Taylor all of Pope County Arkansas. USN Chaplain Heath Taylor of Camp Pendleton, CA; one niece Missy Taylor Hooten of Pope County Arkansas. Numerous other nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and friends.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at East Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. David Holder officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery in Ashdown, AR.
Family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at East Funeral Home-Downtown.
