Jim was born November 27th, 1945 in Texarkana, Texas. He was retired from Red River Army Depot after many years of service. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict in Phu Cat Vietnam. He was a member of the Hampton Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Harley and Vera Mills and many aunts and uncles who he grew up around that had a great influence on his life.
Jim loved the simple country life, being outdoors, sitting on his front porch, riding his horses when he was able and riding around in his hooptie as he called his all-terrain vehicle. He loved Corgis especially his faithful companion Hootie. He was an avid Donald Trump supporter and loved to call his son and discuss politics.
He could sit down and talk to anyone no matter their situation in life. He especially had a heart for disabled Veterans as he felt their pain. He had a desire to help those in need and would try to make sure their needs were met expecting no recognition. He did these things because of his love for Jesus.
Some of his best memories were growing up in the Artex hills and the adventures that he had when times were less complicated. It was there that he learned the value of hard work. He always wanted the best for his family and would always say “Don’t do as I do, just do as I say."
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, June Mills of DeKalb, Texas; son and daughter-in-law; Jim Bob and Christy Mills and the absolute light of his life, his grandson Kameron Mills of Texarkana, Texas.
Also left to cherish his memory are his stepson and his significant other Bill Allen and Keisha McKinney of DeKalb, Texas and three bonus grandchildren Ana, Wyatt and Luke Allen. His sister and brother-in-law; Ann and Joel Shipley of Jacksonville, Texas and his favorite niece and her family Cynthia and Rey Ramirez and their children, Sammy and Amelia Ramirez of Poquoson, Virginia and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Bobby and Sue Thompson and Bill and Laura Thompson all of DeKalb, Texas; special cousin who he loved to have conversations with Mary Glynn Douglas of Texarkana and close friends Pedro and Daisy Garcia of DeKalb, Texas and many cousins and other relatives who he loved dearly.
