On July 15, 2024, Eugene Edward “Gene” Kahanek passed away peacefully in Texarkana, Texas at the age of 97. Gene was born February 15, 1927 to Edward Paul Kahanek and Emma Hubka Kahanek in Yoakum, Texas. He spent most of his early years in Kingsville, Texas where he met Yvonne Maxine Moursund at Texas A&I College. They married in 1952 and would remain husband and wife for the next 52 years.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Gene returned to Texas and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation, he began a career in the transportation industry in Houston. Gene and Yvonne had twin boys, Ronald Eugene and Walter Crain and together they registered the cattle brand “4K”, which later became the name of Walt’s commodity trading business. After retiring, Gene and Yvonne moved to their lake home in Point Blank, Texas where they enjoyed hosting family gatherings, traveling and the tranquility of lake life.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, wife Yvonne , his son Walt and three sisters, Helen Rogers, Edith Durdin and Mae Roper.
Gene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ron and Kathy Kahanek of Houston, Texas, his daughter-in-law and caregiver, Suzanne Morris Kahanek of Texarkana, Texas. His grandchildren and spouses Jessica Kahanek and Lewis Lowe, Jared Kahanek and Allison Fisher of Washington, D.C., Kyle Kahanek and Jack Kahanek of Houston, Texas. His great grandchildren Joseph and Charlie Lowe of Washington, D.C. His loving nieces and nephews and their families who he adored.

Interment will be in San Antonio, Texas at Mission Burial Park South with a private family service.
