Donald Gene Smith

Donald Gene Smith, 83, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away February 10th, 2022, at his home. He was born August 24th, 1938, in Wilton, Arkansas, to Vance and Callie Smith - the fourth child of seven. He retired on July 1st, 1995, as President/CEO of Mil-Way Federal Credit Union after 25 years of service. He left a lifetime of hard work to relax and enjoy life with the love of his life, his wife - Gwendolyn Sue Heflin Smith.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue; his parents Vance and Callie Smith; his brothers Jimmy and LeVan Smith, and his recently departed sister, Hazel Fowler.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Todd Warren of New Orleans, Louisiana; two grandchildren - Sydney Warren of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Trevor Warren of Durham, North Carolina; brother William Smith of Bridge City, Texas; sister Geraldine Shelby of Texarkana, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Lynda and Ed Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law Horace Fowler of Texarkana, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clyde and Bonnie Heflin of Texarkana, Arkansas; and a number of nieces, nephews and special friends who made his final years filled with love.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 18th, at 2pm at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas. Mr. Smith’s son-in-law, Todd Warren, will officiate.

After the service, the family will gather there at the funeral home for visitation.
