

Died June 10, 2011 after a battle with Blindness and Pancreatic Carcinoma, in Texarkana. He was conceived in Clinton, New York in June of 1926 by John and Margaret Phillips. He wrote while in high school for the Clinton Courier and thereafter occasionally. He worked at Hayes National Bank and Hogan’s store which his family owned.
Sgt. Phillips thoroughly enjoyed serving in the army in Germany, where he could study their language, customs, and history. He got into the Russian zone through the Brandenburg Gates into Berlin and East Germany. He returned safely.
His principle occupation was as an insurance adjuster based in Philadelphia PA. He worked in West Virginia, Atlantic City, The Bronx New York, Harrisburg, PA the riots in Baltimore and Hurricane Betsy in Miami Beach Florida. In 1973 when
policies became available, he represented the National Flood Insurance working 5 tours in New Orleans and surrounding rural areas of Louisiana.
He retired at age 57 on disabilities and became a successful stock and bond trader. He enjoyed traveling to over 30 countries, the serenity of East Texas Piney woods in his log cabin and canoe. and the company of his German Shepard CORNBREAD.
He is survived by his daughter, Patti, of Texarkana; Brother Jack of Las Vegas; Sister, Alice, of Houston, and Granddaughter Laura of Nuremberg, Germany; Son Fritz died of Cancer 2010 in Huntsville AL. Mr. Phillips ashes were cast upon the Mississippi in Natchez, by J.R. Wheelington.
The Wheelington's will receive friends at their home at 7244 South Valley Road, Texarkana, AR. Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm.
