Wilma Rose Deckard Carithers, 85, passed away Sept. 20, 2018, in the Exceptional Living Center of Brazil. She was born Nov. 8, 1932, in Terre Haute, to Virgil Deckard and Hattie Naomi [Meakin] Deckard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 28 years, Robert Dale Carithers; son, Michael Joseph Carithers; great-granddaughter, Phoebe Marie Ausman; and sister, Alma Campbell.
Wilma is survived by her son, Robert Carithers and his wife Julie of Terre Haute; her daughter, Leslie Carithers Van Horn and her husband Shawn of Jasonville; five granddaughters, Jennifer and Mallory Carithers, Jessica and Ashley Stevenson and Larissa Van Horn; seven great-grandsons, C.J. and Cayden Carney, Owen Michael Waffird, Gabriel and Noah Gennicks, Lucian Butler and Joseph Ausman; and one great-granddaughter, Vivian Hutcheson.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and graduated from the former State High School in Terre Haute. Wilma was a teacher's aide at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School for many years. She loved taking care of her family and always put everyone before herself.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Cliff Gano officiating. Wilma will be laid to rest in Highland Lawn Cemetery.
