Richard John Swain, Sr., 79, of St. Charles, MO, formerly of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Depaul Health Center in St. Louis. He was born on October 21, 1934, in Terre Haute, to Edward and Anna (Schroeder) Swain. He married Ruth Ann Jeffers on November 2, 1969.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army. He worked for 42 years at Westin Paper before retiring to spend more time with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan for over 60 years. He also enjoyed watching Nascar; his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. Richard also loved to go to casinos to play cards, especially poker, and slot machines. He was a devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard Swain, Jr., and his partner Al Collins, of Aurora, IL; a step-son, Samuel Foltz and his friend Rebekah Foltz of St. Charles, MO; and nieces, Patty McMahan-Hood of Ray City, GA and Judith Etson of Covington, KY.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Swain, in 1995; his parents, brothers Frank E. Swain and Roy Virgil; and a sister Lenora Swain.
Visitation will be held from 10 until 2 p.m. on Monday, August 4 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2, on Monday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating.
