Richard Byers

Richard Byers, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Union Hospital. He was born on February 16, 1931, in Bridgeton to Virgil Byers and Anna (Durkos) Moy.
Richard is survived by his brother, William Byers; sister, Judy Shelton; daughters, Michelle (Randy) Ramey and Patricia (Michael) McClain; grandchildren, Troy (Angie) Ramey, Lori (Craig) Ploessl, Shawn (Debbie) McClain, Melissa (Scott) Jeffers, Ryan (Ryan Tyler) McClain; nephew, Perry Shelton; niece, Lisa (Monty) Gilman; ten great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, two great-nieces, and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Byers, Anna Moy, and Richard Moy; daughter, Tammy Byers Romine; brother-in-law, James Shelton; sister-in-law, Wanda Byers; a nephew, Michael Byers; and a niece, Janet Flowers.
Richard graduated from Otter Creek High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1950 and the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1955. He worked as a Vigo County Sheriffs Deputy and as a correctional officer. He also worked at Bemis for nineteen years.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18 at Roselawn Memorial Park. Mattox-Wood Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mattoxwood.com
