Mabel G. Haynes, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Union Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on December 11, 1918, in Vigo County to Jesse and Lydia (Sourwine) Wagle. She was the last survivor of thirteen children. She married Russell Haynes and together they raised two children. Mabel was a graduate of Fontanet High School. She worked and retired from Columbia Records. She then worked for Meadows Home Care until the age of 84. She was a 50 year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star 12 Points Chapter, Daughers of the Nile, Kerman Grotto Calderon, Past Noble Grand Rebecca of the 40 & 8, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion 104 Ladies Auxiliary, Sycamore Club, Red Hat Society, and the Retirees Club. She loved to shop and enjoyed quilting. Mabel will always be remembered for her loving heart and willingness to help anybody.
Mabel is survived by her son, Ronald Haynes and his wife Jenifer of Brazil, her daughter, Janice Hudson and her husband Larry of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Brent Hudson and Traci Banta, both of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Broc (Shelby) Hudson of Terre Haute, Cole Banta, U.S. Army, Germany, Shelbey (Logan) Banta of Terre Haute, Ryan Posey and Matthew Hudson, both of Bloomington; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell E. Haynes, parents, a grandson Bradley Hudson; and siblings, Samuel, Jake, Davy, Leda, Opal, Mildred, Belvia, Eloise, Jesse, Delbert, Edward, and Kendall.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. A funeral ceremony will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5 at the funeral home with visitation an hour prior to services. Pastor Doug Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
