Lester Pittman, 80, passed away peacefully on January 12th, 2024. Born on August 11th, 1943 to Elizabeth and Melvin in Terre Haute, his brothers were Allen, Victor, and Tom. Lester was a proud husband and dad who work hard to provide his family a good life. He enjoyed building many improvements to the family home in rural Vigo County.
Lester graduated from Garfield High School in 1961, thereafter he joined the Navy and serviced on board of the USS Stickell DD 888 from 1961 to 1964. During his tour he was part of the Blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis, saw much of Europe and the Mediterranean, and learned his trade of boiler mechanic.
After discharge from the Navy Lester worked for Public Service of Indiana (Duke Energy Indiana) at the Wabash River Power Plant as a maintenance mechanic for 36 years. During this time Lester met many co-workers that he respected and considered friends.
Lester is survived by his wife Kay of 58 years, his sons Shawn and Keith, his daughter-in-law Bridget, and his granddaughters Addison and Katelyn. The family has held a private service to celebrate Lester’s life, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
