Leo Edward Akers, 51, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:14 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, in Union Hospital Emergency Room. He was employed with the Vigo County School Corporation. He was born March 21, 1963, in Terre Haute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Bigger Akers; two sons, Jacob Akers and Benson Akers, both of Terre Haute; his mother, Lorean Sue Thompson Sullivan of Terre Haute; two sisters, Pam Lewis and Robin Moss, both of Terre Haute; two brothers, Kenny Akers and David Akers, both of Terre Haute; two stepbrothers, Steve Sullivan and Chris Sullivan; and a stepsister, Debbie McCammon; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, David Wayne Akers; and his grandparents, Leo and Anna Lockard.
He was a member of Southside Nazarene Church. He enjoyed morel mushrooms and he was an avid sports fan and especially liked watching the Cardinals, Pacers, and Dolphins. He also loved his dogs, Diesel and Stripe.
Funeral services for Leo will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, in Southside Nazarene Church, 1901 S. 4th St., in Terre Haute, with Pastors Kim Suits and Dale Stoops officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honorguard. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time in the church. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, West Terre Haute, assisted with arrangements.
