June Marie Rounds Allen, 90, formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on September 15, 2015 in Carmel, Indiana. She was born to Carl E. Rounds and Floye Kightlinger Rounds on June 9, 1925 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Meadville High School, class of 1943.
Upon graduation, June went to work at the Merchants National Bank and Trust Company in Meadville. She worked there for 8 years. In 1946, she married Robert G. Allen, also of Meadville. Robert’s career with the J.C. Penney Company moved the couple to Youngstown, Ohio in 1951. It was there that June and Robert’s two sons were born. June devoted her time to being a wife and mother. The family moved to Barberton, Ohio in 1955 and Salem, Ohio in 1956. Then they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1957. June’s daughter was born there in 1960, and in 1962, the family moved to Terre Haute.
In 1972, June went to work for the Vigo County School Corporation at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School in the cafeteria. She retired from there in June of 1988.
Upon retirement, Robert and June enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren. June always enjoyed crossword puzzles and other brain-teaser games.
June was a member of the Eastside church of Christ and Senior Seekers in Terre Haute.
On September 4, 2014, June’s husband of 68 years, Robert, passed away. June moved to a senior living facility in Carmel, Indiana. Others who preceded her in death were her parents, two brothers, Wilbur and Carl Rounds, and one sister, Maxine Calvin.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy B. Allen (Debra) of Anniston, Alabama, Robert E. Allen (Deborah) of Zionsville, Indiana, one daughter, Nancy K. Bright (Stuart) of Carmel, Indiana; 7 grandchildren, Amy Roberts of Charlotte, NC, Danielle Allen of Orange City, FL, Travis Allen of Las Vegas, NV, Aaron Allen of Chicago, IL, Jack Allen of Zionsville, IN, Coleman Bright (Lauren) of Portland, OR, and Corey Bright of Chicago, IL, and one great grand-daughter, Kendall Roberts of Charlotte, NC.
Services will be held Friday Sept. 18, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 18, 2015. Officiating will be Matt Carver and Jeff Griggs. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (www.macular.org).
