Jean Durr Thurman, 94, of Terre Haute went to be with her Lord Monday, July 25, 2016. She was born July 22, 1922 in Crowell, Texas, the daughter of James and Lola Marlow. In 1942, she married Rev. J.C. Durr, who passed away in 1976. She married Harold Thurman in 1982. He also preceded her in death.
Jean served many years alongside Rev. Durr in ministry at Ryker’s Ridge Baptist Church in Madison, Indiana, and First Baptist Church of North Terre Haute. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Terre Haute for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School, mentored teens, sang in the choir, and led ladies’ ministries. Her passions were traveling, especially involving mission work, and her family.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Merwon Drew. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Marlow of Terre Haute.
Jean is also survived by her only son, Robert Durr (Nancy) of Terre Haute; grandchildren – Greg Durr (Karen) of Terre Haute, Amy Certain (Anthony) of Cayuga, Indiana, and Jason Durr (Shelly) of Dunedin, Florida; great-grandchildren- Nick (Kaitland), Adrian (Jessica), and Emily Durr, Alex and Austin Certain. And Gracie, Isaac, and Paislee Durr; and great-great-grandchildren – Max and Harleigh Durr.
Services are 6:30 p.m., Monday, August 1, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Carey and Rev. Gene Jeffers officiating. Visitation is prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
