Obituary of James Levon Smith
It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our father and husband, James Levon Smith, who left us on September 14, 2024. He was 80 years young. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final days at IU Health Hospice House of Bloomington, Indiana. He was born in Bradford Arkansas on April 14, 1944 to Glenneth L. Smith and Evelyn A. (Self) Yadon who have preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his step dad Robert “Bob” Yadon and half-brother Robert “Bobby” Yadon II of Shelburn, Indiana. He is survived by many family members which include his wife and companion of 17 years, Andrea Bidwell-Smith; his former wife and mother to his children, Jane E. McGrew; his half-sister, Jackie Gocza and her children Roger and Christina; his four children, James R. Smith, Jill Y. Smith (Kenneth Cory), Jeffrey A. Smith, Jay R. Smith (Debra Bond-Smith); his seven grandkids, Gregory J. Smith (Deanna), Janarae Smith-Wallen (Kreig), Jaden C. Smith, Chase Evans, Holly D. Smith, Cole Bond and Dylan Bond; his five great grandkids and several family members in Arkansas. He was known to many as “Smitty”, Jimsy”, “Termite”, and “Toothpick”. He was a very loving father, brother, uncle and husband who had a great sense of humor and loads of wisdom. His passion for the outdoors will be carried on by many who came to know him. He always made sure to be prepared in most situations and passed down his knowledge and experiences to family and friends. He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1962. Out of his many “hats” of employment, some include Wiemoth and Sons, Wabash Fiber Box CO and the former Bemis CO in which he retired from in 2010 as a fork truck operator. He was with local Union #1426 for Bemis/AMCOR. He was also an assistant scoutmaster to the Wabash Valley council Troop #311 for several years. He was a very proud long standing member of the Jim Smith Society #0566, “We shun no fun” since 1973. Anytime he was asked about the “Smith” name he would show his JSS card and tell all about it. He and his wife, Annie enjoyed several trips to the JSS fun fest and making new friends with other Jims and (Gems) wives. He will be greatly missed by all that had the opportunity to know him. We will miss you dearly dad and as Evan said, “Good luck in Heaven. We love you!” Per his wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to IU Health Hospice House or charity of your choice.
