Georgette Pauline (Troye) Arnold passed away on August 3, 2024, in her adopted home of Naperville, Illinois. Born to Louise (Frey) Troye and Charles Troye on February 11, 1924 in West Terre Haute, Indiana. Georgette lived a healthy and happy life for over 100 years. She was the beloved matriarch of her family.
Georgette was a cherished member of the Troye family, as the sister to her (deceased) siblings: Eleanor Webster, Louise Harrold, Bertha Helman, Edmund (Bud) Troye and Martha Frey. She was a graduate of Valley High School in 1942. She worked at Hulman & Company until marrying Russell H. Arnold in April 1943 in Morgantown, West Virginia. She was a military wife during World War II, living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, San Antonio, Texas, Augusta Georgia and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After the war, she returned to West Terre Haute, Indiana and built a home in Terre Haute where she lived until 2015 when she moved to Illinois.
Georgette is survived by her two children: Joan (Donald) DuChane and Gregory (Peggy) Arnold. She has four beloved grandchildren: Christopher (Bridgette) DuChane, Shanna (Jason) Hand, Avery Morgan and Kian Morgan. She is loved by great-grandchildren: Everett DuChane, Elijah DuChane, Grace Hand, Baker Hand, Brooks Hand, Caroline Hand, Allison Morgan, Jasmine Barker, Jordan Barker and Jonathan Barker. She is fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She raised her family and was an active member of Kent Avenue EUB Church teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. After its closing, she became a member of Maplewood Christian Church where she was a member of the CIB Sunday School Class. Georgette moved to live with her daughter in Illinois when she was 91 and joined Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville, Illinois. She made many friends in the congregation, especially in her Bible Study groups. She made more new friends at the Alfred Rubin Community Center in Naperville where she played cards and dominoes. Georgette loved playing cards - especially with Shanna, Jason and their children. After COVID, she continued to play cards twice a week with those same ladies she had met at the community center. To say that she had a competitive nature would be an understatement.
Some of Georgette’s fondest memories were from her time in the Elks Ladies 9-Hole League. She played golf until she was 90 years old. A highlight was getting to play golf with her grandson, Chris. She was a life member of the Terre Haute Women’s Department Club where she always provided her “famous” Belgian waffle cookies for the Christmas bazaar.
Visitation will be held on August 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM to 1 PM at the Roselawn Chapel in Terre Haute, IN. It will be followed by a service led by Reverend Jason Hand at 1PM to honor the life of Georgette Pauline Arnold.
