He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack Galey; and his two favorite dogs, Wilson and Buck.
Gary is survived by his sister, Tina Galey Horrall and Jimmy; niece Elizabeth Reed and Blake; great-nephews, Brann and Emmet; nephew Mark Galey; niece Sheila Efferen and their spouses; and special cousins.
He always enjoyed farming; beginning with the former Miller Florist on Plum Street, he and his father grew tomatoes and watermelons nearly every inch where he grew up. Since his then career took him to the D.C area, he developed a large peach farm in Crownsville, Maryland. As his family needed him home, he returned to Terre Haute to continue his true calling; he was the founder and the owner of Fruitridge Gardens until his retirement on December 31, 2012.
Gary graduated from Gerstmeyer High School Class of 1966. He was an alumni and an avid ISU fan. Also, Gary was a dedicated member of the Terre Haute Breakfast Optimist Club and encouraged others to become "Friend of Youth" with this organization.
Tina would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Majestic of Deming Park and VNA Hospice for the compassion of care that they provided. Also an immeasurable thanks to Jorge who visited daily with Gary's best friend Ron,Toni, and his classmates and friends.
Celebration of Life will be held at Bohannon's on Thursday April 18, 2024 beginning at 5PM.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Terre Haute Humane Society or ISU Athletics.
