Fred Oran Roberts, Jr., 83, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on January 11, 1938, in Vigo County to Fred Oran Roberts and Viola Isabelle (Coy) Roberts.
Fred, also known as John or Johnny to those closest to him, graduated from high school and joined the United States Navy. He proudly served his country for 20 years on active duty. During this time, John met his wife, Eida Figueras Duran, on a deployment to Guantanemo Bay, Cuba. John and Eida married on July 18, 1958. After retiring from the US Navy, John worked for another 20 years at the Naval Avionics Facility. John loved watching Westerns, reading, and fishing. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 972.
John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eida Roberts; their children, Elizabeth Roberts, Viola Porter, Fred Oran Roberts III, and Alicia Holloway (Billy); brothers, Hank Roberts (Marge), David Roberts (Connie), James Roberts (Judy), and Victor Roberts; a sister, Fredia Phillips (Melvin); and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Marylou Roberts; his daughter, Celia Iris Roth; and a sister-in-law, Lola Edwards Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. A private graveside ceremony with military honors will be held in Roselawn Memorial Park. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
