Florence A. Smith, 96, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Harrison’s Crossing. She was born on January 31, 1922, in Fontanet to Carl and Margaret (Sharer) Webster. On January 15, 1943, she married Carl E. Smith. They were married for 72 years before his passing in 2015.
Florence is survived by her three children: Joyce Shaffer and husband Jerry, Gary E. Smith and wife Patty, and James A. Smith and wife Karen; six grandchildren, Brian Shaffer, Kim Irish, Gary Smith Jr., Kevin Lee Smith, Eric Smith and James Smith Jr; a sister, Sharon Lemmons and husband Ron; thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Willard Webster and Robert Webster; and sisters, Cleda Stinson, Lois Wagner, and Helen Ferrari.
Florence was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she served as the secretary for her Senior Sunday School class. She retired from Bemis after 23 years of service. In her spare time, Florence loved to wrap hangers with different colors of yarn and work crossword puzzles. She made the world’s best noodles and cinnamon rolls. Florence was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and a devoted wife. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 3 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Fleschner officiating.
