Edna Mae Drake died February 10, 2014 at age 96. She was born in Burnwell, W. Va. on January 28, 1918 to Nancy Jane and Chester Frisby. She was married to Charles Leo Drake from August 14, 1935 until his death in May 1976.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Nickey and husband Carl of Brazil, In. Four Grand Children: Chuck and Lynn Nickey of Huntsville, Al., Brad and Shelly Nickey of Hillsboro, Wi., Jeff and Sandy Nickey of Hartland, Wi., and Suzanne and John Parsons of Fishers, IN. She enjoyed visits from 9 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband as well as a son, Charles E. Drake, four sisters and one brother, and a great grand daughter.
Edna was a survivor from the time she was born at home with a weight of 2 ½ pounds. She was placed in a cigar box near the fireplace with minimum expectations of living. Her early life included not only the Great Depression, but also several years in an orphanage. When her children were teenagers, she began working at Shultz Dept Store and later at the WigWam Skating Rink. She enjoyed traveling, dancing and music. Her sharp wit and “spunky” attitude will be missed by many friends and family.
