Charles Frederick Smith, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Union Hospital. He was fondly known as C.F., Fred, Chuck, Charlie Fred, having a variety of other names to many close friends and family. He was born of February 11, 1941, in Terre Haute to Raymond James and Drucilla (Shepherd) Smith. He married Sharon Crowley on July 22, 1962.
Charles is survived by his wife of 53 ½ years, Sharon Smith of Terre Haute; his son, Darin Smith and wife Katharina of Terre Haute; grand-cats, Lucy and Calliope; sister-in-laws, Jeannine Smith, Linda Smith, Sue Johnston (Lloyd), Beverly Kress, and Nita Alexander; cousins, Penny Pendleton, Janet Cox, Don Shepherd, Mary Jane Hanks, Lisa Walker; nephews, Todd Smith (Debbie), Kevin Smith (Karla), Jeff Johnston (Lori), Craig Eleopoulos, Steven Kress (Tammy), Andy Kress (Suzanne), Mike Crowley (Janice); nieces, Debbie Brady, Cindy Darlington, Amy Brunty, Karen Divine, Terri Spradlin (Kent), Dena Taylor (Ron), Christa Stultz (Shawn), Beth Keifner (Bob), and Kathy Hill; plus several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jim Smith, Ted Smith (Nancy), and Richard Smith.
Charles graduated from Wiley High School in 1959. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for a year. He was a Navy Corpsman. He worked at Anaconda/Alcan for 36 years until his retirement. He will be deeply missed by his church family at Victory Christian Center. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping and swimming in his spare time. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Pacers, Colts, Cowboys, and St. Louis Cardinals play.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Shawn Riggs officiating.
