Carl L. Fulk Sr., 91, of Terre Haute, Ind., died at his home on Jan. 23, 2015. He was born March 12, 1923, in Coal City, Ind., to Burley Fulk and Chloe Sommerlot Fulk . Carl was a music teacher with the Vigo County School Corp. He started his teaching career as band director at Glenn High School and then he went to Huntingburg, Ind., and after that to various elementary schools in Vigo County.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Harvey Fulk; his daughter, Kerri Roxanne Fulk of Bellevue, Ky.; sons, Carl L. Fulk Jr. (Lucindia) of Jasonville, James Joseph Fulk (Ngoc Kim Luu) of Brazil and Kenneth Anderson Fulk of Columbus, Ohio; stepdaughters, Barbara Kassing (Lee) of Plainfield, Ind., and Charlene Price (Kelly) of Merrill, Iowa; and stepsons, James Martin (Carol) of Plainfield, Ind., and Thomas Owen Martin of Plainfield, Ind. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Judy Roxanne Fulk; and several nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alma Pearl Pickens and Velma Smith; and brothers, Harold Fulk, Charles Fulk, William Fulk and Clifford Fulk.
Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in both the European and Asian Theaters during WWII. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries that he received in Okinawa and was a member of American Legion Post #346. He was a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College and a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Carl was very active in New Hope Community Church of God. He enjoyed camping with his family and will be remembered as a highly respected man who was a loving father who loved music and enjoyed making people laugh, a wonderful dad who will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at DeBaun Funeral Homes—Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, with Pastor David Sivley officiating at New Hope Community Church of God, 3947 Riley Road, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Community Church of God.
