Visitation for Alma will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM at Roselawn Funeral Home – 7500 North Clinton Street, Terre Haut, Indiana 47805.
Alma Elizabeth Whitsit, Emory, age 97, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 29, 2024. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Springhill Village where she lived in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was a gentle soul who was loved and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Alma was born at home in Pimento, Vigo County, Terre Haute, Indiana on June 1, 1927, to Jesse Artist and Delora Maude (Williams) Emory. She was the fifth of seven children born to them. Brothers and sisters who were very close and when they were married and had children and grandchildren, they continued to be close through annual family reunions.
Alma worked in Terre Haute over the years at Quaker Maid (5 ½ years) and later at Union Hospital. She was a Christian and attended church regularly until she was unable to travel. She loved traveling, camping, fishing, watching the birds, her plants, her flower gardens, and all of nature. She had a warm smile, a quiet laugh, a feisty spirit, and was kind to everyone.
Alma is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jesse Artist and Delora Maude (Williams) Emory. The love of her life, Jesse James Whitsit Jr. One step son, Donald Lee Whitsit, one step daughter, Terri Lynn Cassidy (Whitsit). She will be reunited with her sisters and brother in laws: Viola Josephine (Raymond Wilson) Phifer, Bernie Rossie (Vance Eugene) Pruitte, Gertrude Frances ‘Mert’ (Chester Carl) Roettger, and her brothers and sisters in law: Edward Arthur (Susanna Rose Engles), James Samuel (Wanda Lou Laycock), Marion Earl (Esther Elizabeth Crisler). Several nieces and nephews. Their family reunion is in Heaven now.
She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those she leaves behind to cherish her memory. Her step son, Michael Hermon Whitsit and his family, stepdaughter, Nancy Louise Riggs (Whitsit) and her family. Nieces, Carolyn Sue (Loren Allen) Watson (Emory), Bernice Janet (Robert Lee) Kleinschmidt (Pruiett), Deborah Kay Dillard (Emory), Mary Margaret (Jerry Lee) Steadman (Emory). Nephews, Thomas James and Randell Joe Emory.
She will be interned at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana, beside her husband of 32 years.
