W. D. "Wesley" Johnson

W. D. “Wesley” Johnson, age 89 of Temple, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Henderson and Rev. Billy Koinm officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 1-2:00 pm Saturday prior to the funeral service.Mr. Johnson was born on May 12, 1926 in Garland, Texas to the late Ernest Oswell Johnson and Martha Ann Gossett Johnson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946 after serving in WWII as a Seaman 2nd Class. He married Dorothy Ruth Thompson on March 15, 1947 in Weatherford. Wesley worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He lived in Cleburne and Slaton before moving to Temple in 1969. Wesley was a member of Heights Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Roy, Vernon, Guy, Don, Doyle and Larry Duane Johnson.Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Johnson of Temple; daughters, Darla Earwood of Slaton, Texas, Debbie Choate and husband Randall of Slaton, Texas, D’Ann Lynch and husband Billy of Moody, Texas; sons, David Johnson and wife Brenda and Douglas Johnson and wife Sandy, both of Temple; grandchildren, Wesley T. Earwood of Frisco, Texas, Jana Earwood and Will Earwood of Wilson, Texas, Lori Ann Orr of Slaton, Texas, Jennifer Cope and Kari Edwards of Temple, Tyler and Bradly Johnson of Temple and Corbin and Austin Lynch of Moody; step grandchildren, Shelby Freytag of Temple and Garrett Hendrix of College Station; and 17 great grandchildren. Memorials may be given in Mr. Johnson’s name to Heights Baptist Church, 1220 S. 49th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.
