Thomas J. Rodriguez, age 78, of Temple died Thursday, November 4, 2010 in a Temple Hospital. The family will receive visitors at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1018 South 7th Street, Temple, TX, 76504 from 6-8:00 PM, Monday, November 8, 2010 with the rosary recited at 7:00 PM. A Christian Burial with a Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1018 South 7th Street, Temple, TX, 76504 at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 9, 2010 with Father Tom Chamberlain officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Mr. Rodriguez was born on September 18, 1932 in Rocksprings, Texas to the late Elpido and Julia Uriegas Rodriguez. He attended school in Menard, TX and was a stellar linebacker for the Menard Yellow Jacket football team. Thomas graduated from Menard High School in 1950. After attending Tarleton State College for 2 years he enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. Thomas was a bookkeeper in Houston and worked for Paine Weber and LV Controls in Houston. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and was a past commander with the American Legion Post #578 in Houston. On November 26, 1994, Thomas married Alice Lopez. Thomas was a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Temple. Mr. Rodriguez was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister, and his first wife, Matilda Rodriguez in 1993. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Alice Rodriguez of Temple; a daughter, Mary Alice Crisp and husband Mark of Indiana; two sons, Edward Rodriguez and wife Terri, and Richard Rodriguez and wife Brenda, both of Houston; a sister, Corina Stowell and husband Edward of Houston; a brother, Robert Rodriguez and wife Sharon of Burley, Idaho; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Damian Rodriguez, Kolbey Rodriguez, Brandon Rodriguez, Christian Stowell, Conrad Stowell and John Cruz. Honofre Rodriguez will be an honorary pallbearer. Memorials may be given in Mr. Rodriguez's name to the charity of choice.
