Memorial services for Sue Merryman Smith, 84, of Temple will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday January 6, 2024 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Loyd Hall officiating. Private family burial will precede the memorial service at North Belton Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith passed on Saturday Dec. 23, 2023 in a Temple assisted Living Facility.
Mrs. Smith was born June 22, 1939 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to George W. Merryman and Phoebe Show Merryman. She worked as a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone in Greensburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1957 until 1961. She married Clement E. (Gene) Smith on September 16, 1961 in Virginia. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She became a homemaker, mother and dedicated Army spouse. She accompanied her husband to many locations including New Jersey, Germany, Oklahoma and Texas. They were stationed at Ft. Hood twice and moved to Belton in 1971 and made it their home. Her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed art, reading, doing crafts and spending time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Vance and her husband Tim of Troy; two granddaughters, Kelly Holt and her husband Blake of Georgetown and Sarah Panning and her husband Ryan of West Columbia; five great grandchildren, Molly Holt, Carter Holt, Brooks Holt, Madison Holt and Cooper Panning.
