Shirley Von Gonten

Funeral service is Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00pm at Scanio Harper Funeral Home in Temple, with burial in Rogers Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Billy Ray Crow will officiate. Pallbearers include Jackson Reeves, Riley Maple, Joe Sanchez, Rudy Villarreal, Tim Hawk, and Eric Moreland.

Shirley was born August 28, 1942 to George and Corine (Boatright) Moreland in Austin, Texas. She graduated from Del Valle High School and Austin Business College. Shirley married Jimmy Leland Von Gonten on August 26, 1961 in Austin, Texas. She retired from ATOS/Slumberger (Ascension Seton IT) after working for them for many years. Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, daughter, and friend. She devoted her entire life to her family, working tirelessly and loving fiercely.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her daughter, Melissa Von Gonten; her parents; her brothers, Ronnie & Billy Moreland; and her son-in-law, Mitch Latham.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cindy Villarreal and husband Rudy of Pflugerville, Rhonda Latham of Bradenton, Florida, and Jennifer Maple and fiancé Tim Hawk; her granddaughters, Skylar Sanchez and husband Joe of Anna, and Riley Maple of Pflugerville; her grandson, Jackson Reeves of Belton; her great-grandbaby Sanchez that is on the way; her sisters, Nancy Townley of Round Rock, and Carolyn Carter of Kyle; her brothers, Bobby Moreland of Pflugerville and Bennie Moreland and wife Bettye of Webberville; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and host of friends.
