Funeral services for Robert Lee Fitzsimmons, Sr., 68, of Temple will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Scanio Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery. Mr. Fitzsimmons died Sunday at his residence. Mr. Fitzsimmons was born in Central City, Nebraska to Robert Emmitt Fitzsimmons and Estella Houghton Fitzsimmons. He married Sandra Patterson April 23, 1966. He retired from the Army as a Major. During his time in the Army he received the Silver Star; Bronze Star Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; Purple Heart; Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and V Device; Combat Infantryman Badge; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); National Defense Service Medal Good Conduct Medal with Clasp, Bronze, 2 Loops; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Service Stars; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with 2 Palms and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his Army retirement he worked in supply at the V.A. Hospital and operated Fitzsimmons Trucking Company. He was a Presbyterian and a member of American Legion Post 133. Survivors include his wife Sandra Fitzsimmons of Temple; two sons Robert Fitzsimmons Jr. and his wife Pamela Denise Bolding Fitzsimmons and Matthew Fitzsimmons and his wife Anne Ballou Fitzsimmons all of Temple; three grandchildren Aaron Tyler Terese, Hayley Amanda Fitzsimmons and Austyn Elizabeth Fitzsimmons; one sister Sharell McNeil and her husband John of Phoenix, Arizona, his brother-in-law Billy Patterson and his wife Edalee of Dallas; two nieces Judy Mason and Jennifer McNeil, three nephews John Pat McNeil, Jimmy McNeil and Joe McNeil; two great nieces and one great nephew.
